Par Health has recalled two lots of Brevital Sodium over possible particles. Here is what the recall covers and what to do. By Dr. Von Apochi | SabiWaka Naturals
On October 8, 2026, Par Health announced a voluntary recall of two lots of Brevital Sodium (methohexital sodium), 500 mg per vial, in the United States. The vials may be contaminated with cellulose particles.
Brevital is an injectable anesthetic. Healthcare professionals use it to put patients to sleep before or during certain medical procedures.
Why does this matter?
Injecting a medicine that contains foreign particles can cause serious problems. These include blocked blood vessels and inflammation of the walls of veins. That is why the recall was issued as a precaution.
What is affected?
Lot 86930 (expires February 2028)
Lot 88623 (expires April 2028)
Only these two lots are recalled, not every Brevital product.
The recall is at the hospital and pharmacy level.
Has anyone been harmed?
Par Health said it had received no reports of adverse events linked to this recall when it was announced.
What should hospitals and pharmacies do?
Check their stock, set aside the affected lots, stop using them, and follow the recall instructions from the manufacturer.
What should patients do?
There is no need to panic. If you recently had a procedure with anesthesia and feel unwell, contact your healthcare provider promptly.
Is this relevant in Nigeria?
This recall is in the United States. If you have a concern about a medicine you received in Nigeria, ask your hospital pharmacist. You can also report suspected substandard or unsafe medicines to NAFDAC.
