Par Health has recalled 22 lots of Argatroban Injection after particles were found. Here is what to know and what not to do. By Dr. Von Apochi | SabiWaka Naturals
On October 13, 2026, Par Health announced a voluntary nationwide recall of 22 lots of Argatroban Injection, 250 mg per 2.5 mL (100 mg/mL), in the United States. Particles were found in certain lots.
Argatroban is an intravenous blood thinner given in hospitals. It is used to prevent or treat blood clots in adults with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), which is a reaction to the common blood thinner heparin. It is also used during certain heart procedures in patients with or at risk of HIT.
What was found?
The particles were identified as cellulose, polystyrene, PET plastic, and rubber stopper material. Stainless steel may also be present.
Why does this matter?
When foreign particles enter the bloodstream, they can block blood vessels or cause inflammation. The FDA has said that using the affected product has a reasonable probability of causing serious, life-threatening harm. That is why the lots are being pulled.
What is affected?
22 specific lots, not every Argatroban product.
The lots were distributed to wholesalers and hospitals between December 30, 2024 and May 5, 2026.
The recall is at the hospital and user level.
Has anyone been harmed?
Par Health said no adverse events linked to this recall had been reported.
What should hospitals and pharmacies do?
Identify any affected lots, stop using and distributing them, and follow the recall instructions, including returning the stock as directed.
What should patients do?
If you or a loved one is receiving a blood thinner, do not stop treatment on your own. Stopping can raise the risk of dangerous blood clots. Speak with your doctor or hospital pharmacist if you have questions.
Is this relevant in Nigeria?
This recall is in the United States. If you have a concern about a medicine in Nigeria, ask your pharmacist or report it to NAFDAC.
